Katy tossed and turned restlessly. A bead of sweat formed on her forehead. 'It seems really hot!' she thought. She pulled back the covers, and noticed how warm they felt. 'It is really hot!' she thought.
A geyser of flame flashed above her and she let out a scream. She jumped out of bed. There, at the foot of her bed, was the source of the heat - a small white dragon!
"I'm s-s-s-so s-s-s-sorry!" it stuttered. "I have the hiccups."
"Well, when I have the hiccups, I…" she stopped. She didn't think telling a dragon to jump up and down in her bedroom was a good idea, "go out for a walk," she continued.
The dragon looked so sad. Then it quickly turned its head away, "Hic!" A geyser of flame flashed towards the ceiling.
Katy went over and gave the little white dragon a hug. "Whatever is the matter?" asked Katy. It relaxed noticeably and put its wings around Katy to hug her back.
"Lleuwlyn said you would be ni-c-c-c-c-c-c-e." It looked sad. "People s-s-s-ay that Dragons aren't safe. They don't want to visit us and don't want to play. Can you help us?" Its big green eyes looked almost like a puppy-dog.
Katy took a deep breath. She climbed on the dragon's back, wrapped her arms around its neck and away they soared to the dragons' tropical islands. She knew that dragons might not be safe, but that they were fun and exciting, and really very nice.
